Dengue tests: which one when, and what platelets tell you

NS1, CBC, platelets — which test to do when, and why the platelet count alone does not tell the whole story.By সম্পাদনা দল · Editorial desk — Oct 12, 2026 · 5:30 PM, 1 min read

Which test when

  • In the first five days of fever: the NS1 antigen — to know if it is dengue
  • After five days: dengue IgM/IgG antibodies
  • Every day in the danger days: a CBC — platelets and haematocrit

Platelets are not everything

Falling platelets are frightening. But a doctor looks at two things together: how fast platelets fall and whether the haematocrit rises — that is the sign of fluid leaving the blood vessels. Send each report in the app as soon as you get it; a doctor checks it and tells you what to do.

Only a doctor decides on a platelet transfusion. Never seek one on your own.
